India – Hombre Collettivo theatre company at the International Theatre Festival of Kerala
The 14th edition of the International Theatre Festival of Kerala (ITFoK) – the prestigious performing arts Indian festival – will take place in Thrissur from February 9 to 16.
The performance Alle Armi by the very young and already award-winning group Hombre Collettivo has been selected among the ten international productions proposed by the Festival.
The theatre company, based in Parma, is composed by four under35 young people and was born in 2019 in the context of the professional training project on the languages and techniques of puppet theatre ‘Animateria’ (promoted by Teatro Gioco Vita, Teatro delle Briciole, and Teatro del Drago, centres of excellence in Emilia-Romagna). Since their first creations, the group has received recognitions for the innovative experimentation of the languages of puppet theatre, and the aptitude for hybridization and contamination of techniques and codes.
Alle Armi is the second work born from their research on the intersection between object theatre and theatre of social issues, developed as an attempt to address fundamental and current historical and political issues in an alternative way.
Alle Armi is a show for adult audience addressing the theme of the war industry, a show without words in which image and object theatre merge to tackle the political and economic matter of the international arms market – an issue that, as the authors point out, “concerns us closely as European and Western countries and during the conception of this work, it has become dramatically current”.
The show, co-produced by Teatro Metastasio in Prato and Associazione Malerba in Parma – of which Hombre Collettivo is part –, premiered in March 2023, garnering great attention and praise from national critics. The invitation from the ITFoK – a festival that has always hosted great artists on the international scene – is a further important recognition for this young and promising theatre company.
Alle armi is on stage on February 13 and 14 (7 pm) at the Actor Murali Theatre in Thrissur.
