Germany – Special project by FontanaMIX ensemble and Das Neue Ensemble for the centenary of Luigi Nono
On the occasion of the centenary of Luigi Nono, born 1924, an Italian ensemble, Bologna based FontanaMIX, and a German one, Hannover based Das Neue Ensemble, have co-created a special anniversary-project, giving life to a programme that aims to trace a path ranging from the reception of the twelve-tone method, moving on to serial thinking, up to the experiments of today.
The project, which has the patronage of the Fondazione Archivio Luigi Nono, will be presented on April 28 at the Sprengel Museum in Hannover in the concert Serie Future - Future Concerts.
Few days later, on May 2, it will be presented in Bologna with the title of Nostalgia Utopica Futura – opening concert of the FontanaMIX concert seasons at the Ex Chiesa di San Mattia.
Conducted by Stephan Meier and Francesco La Licata, the two ensembles will perform together music not only by Nono, but also by Schönberg (and just in this year 2024, we also remember the 150th anniversary of his birth) and pieces by more recent composers – Rebecca Saunders, Andrea Sarto, Johannes Schöllhorn – to investigate how Nono’s (and Schönberg’s) musical thought was passed on to the new generation of composers.
In this context and for this occasion, the Das Neue Ensemble Hannover has commissioned Johannes Schöllhorn a new work, that on April 28 will have its world premiere.
All the pieces will be performed by an enlarged ensemble composed of members of both FontanaMIX and the Das Neue Ensemble.
In Hannover, the concert is part of the Klangbrücken Festival 2024 and will be preceded by a public debate.
FontanaMIX ensemble’s tour has the support of Emilia-Romagna Region and ATER Fondazione.
