Aterballetto in Bulgaria and Germany with "Italia Danza"
Sofia welcomes the starting of the second edition of Italia Danza, the project by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and the national choreographic centre CCN/Aterballetto of Reggio Emilia conceived to bring dance to the symbolic places of Italian culture in the world - the Italian Cultural Institutes, the Embassies, the diplomatic headquarters - and also to unexpected places that allow for close enjoyment, focusing attention on a fundamental aspect of Italian creativity, the contemporary art, capable of creating new languages and new audiences.
The MicroDances by Aterballetto are short site-specific creations, signed by Italian and international choreographers, that offer something unique, impossible in the classic space of a theatre: a close-up experience in which the spectator is around and in contact with the dancer, generating unrepeatable emotions and aesthetic visions.
They are imagined to inhabit palaces, halls and auditoriums, but also small monumental or urban spaces. And this will be the case of the Bulgarian capital on April 27: thanks to the co-operation of the Municipality, the MicroDances take place under the dome of the Largo, a symbolic place of the Country's history and culture (performances at 04:30 pm, at 05:45 pm, and at 07:00 pm).
In Sofia, Italia Danza is presented by the Embassy of Italy, the Italian Cultural Institute, and the Regional Museum of the City of Sofia, and the event is included in the framework of the Made in Italy Day.
A few days later, on April 29, Cologne will welcome the project, that is presented by the Italian Cultural Institute on the occasion of the International Dance Day.
Here the MicroDances will be performed in the spaces of the Institute in two paths, at 06:30 pm and at 07:30 pm.
The choreographies that will set up the different site-specific shows include: An Echo, A Wave by Philippe Kratz, Eppur si muove by Francesca Lattuada, Near Life Experience by Angelin Preljocaj, A Gig by Diego Tortelli.
The first phase of the project took place in November and December 2023 in Prague, Brussels, Zagreb, Stockholm, and Dakar. After Sofia and Cologne, the new destinations of Italia Danza in spring 2024 are Oslo (May 3-4) and Madrid (May 23-24).
