The exhibition "Illustrations for Italo Calvino" in France and Canada
Italian Excellence. Illustrations for Italo Calvino – the exhibition organized by Bologna Children’s Book Fair, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Emilia-Romagna Region on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of the great Italian writer – continues its international tour.
After the recent stops in Mexico and Bulgaria, the next stage is in France, where it is presented by the Italian Cultural Institute in Lyon as part of the celebrations of Calvino's birth and of the Lyon BD international comic festival (June 1-30) and will run to September 30.
The opening, on June 8, is attended by journalist and writer Fabio Gambaro, author of the recent volume Lo Scoiattolo sulla Senna (Feltrinelli, 2023), about Italo Calvino's life in Paris.
Two scheduled appointments. At 5 pm, in one of the main locations of the Festival, the Salons de l'Hôtel de Ville, Gambaro will hold the conference “Italo Calvino et la France” – event presented under the honorary presidency of the Mayor of Lyon Grégory Doucet and attended by Nathalie Perrin-Gilbert, Councillor for Culture, and Anna Pastore, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute.
At 6:30 pm, he will introduce the exhibition "Figures pour Italo Calvino" at the Library of the Institute. At the end of the presentation, Fabio Gambaro will sign copies of his book dedicated to Calvino.
On the other side of the Atlantic, in Canada, “Illustrations for Italo Calvino” is presented by the Italian Cultural Institute in Montreal and will be opened on June 13th.
The Institute has organized it in co-operation with the Montreal Comic Arts Festival on the occasion of the 12th edition of the event (May 26-28), which, by the way, also in collaboration with the Institute, hosted one of the "excellences" of Italian illustration: artist from Cesena Manuele Fior, who was among the illustrators chosen for the second edition of the "Italian Excellence" exhibition project, dedicated to Gianni Rodari.
In Montreal too, "Illustrations for Italo Calvino" will run to September 29.
