Teatro Gioco Vita in the Czech Republic and Romania
The 14th edition of Spectaculo Interesse International Puppetry Festival – the largest international puppetry festival in the Czech Republic and one of the most important in Europe – takes place in Ostrava from October 1st to the 6th.
Organized by the Ostrava Puppet Theatre (Divadlo loutek Ostrava) with the support of the City of Ostrava, the Moravian-Silesian Region, and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the festival is a showcase of the most recent and 'interesting things' produced in the field of puppet theatre. The programme includes a competitive section, with around twenty shows selected by the artistic direction, and at the end of the event an international jury will award the main prize and three individual prizes.
Teatro Gioco Vita participates with the show Sonia and Alfredo, based on the works by Catherine Pineur, co-produced with the French centre MAL - Maison des Arts du Léman (Thonon-Évian-Publier). The stage version, for actors and shadows, merges and develops the events contained in the books Go away, Alfredo! and Are you there, Alfredo? into a single story; direction and set design are by Fabrizio Montecchi, the shadow puppets –taken from Pineur’s drawings– are by Nicoletta Garioni and Federica Ferrari.
It is a story about friendship and solidarity, a sweet and touching story. Through few, essential words and puppets drawn simply but to great effect, the show tells about what happens when we experience exclusion and solitude, about that comforting feeling when finding a home and a friend, about how we feel when we find the courage to face unknown situations for someone else’s sake.
Sonia and Alfredo is on stage in Ostrava on October 6 (two performances, at 9 am and 11 am).
A few days later, the show will be guest of another important international festival, this time in Romania, in Iași: Iasi International Theatre Festival for Young Audience, taking place from October 4 to 10.
Organized by Teatrul Luceafărul and now at its 16th edition, in 2019-2020 the festival received the "EFFE label", Europe’s quality stamp for remarkable arts festivals showing their engagement in the field of the arts, community involvement and international openness.
Here, Sonia and Alfredo will be on stage on October 10 (10 am), performed for the first time in Romania.
