"Se questo è Levi" by Fanny & Alexander in the United Kingdom and Romania

The performance presented in London, Bucharest, and Cluj-Napoca on the occasion of the Holocaust Memorial Day

On the occasion of the Holocaust Memorial Day 2023, the Italian Cultural Institute in London and the Italian Cultural Institute in Bucharest present the show Se questo è Levi (If this is Levi)  by Fanny & Alexander theatre company.

The performance staged in London at the Institute on January 24 (6pm), I sommersi e i salvati (The drowned and the saved), is part of the wider project the company has dedicated to the Holocaust survivor Italian writer.

“Primo Levi – explains director Luigi De Angelis – is among the intellectuals who are most lacking in our days and to whom one naturally returns every time there is an urgent need to ask questions about freedom, rights, imprisonment, the value of memory and testimony”.

Se questo è Levi is a one-to-one dialogue with the author, an attempt to concretely experience the “account”, and make the power and need for his witness pour out.
Andrea Argentieri plays the role of the writer, imitating his voice, gestures, poses, tones, and his speeches. The actor was awarded the 2019 Ubu Prize as Best actor or performer under 35, while the Company was awarded the 2019 Special Ubu Prize for the whole project.

After London, the show is presented in Romania by the the Italian Cultural Institute in Bucharest.

It will be staged on February 3 (7pm) in Bucharest at the State Jewish Theatre, and on February 5 (7pm) in Cluj-Napoca at the Tranzit House cultural centre, a former synagogue built in 1875 by the Orthodox Jewish community.
