OperaStreaming – "Un ballo in maschera" by Giuseppe Verdi

On June 15 from the Teatro Valli in Reggio Emilia, then available online

Un ballo in maschera is known for its passionate music, beautiful melodies, and emotionally charged performances. Verdi's powerful score and the compelling storyline make it one of his most beloved and frequently performed operas.

The opera is part of the 2023 season of OperaStreaming, the platform which offers Emilia-Romagna opera productions streamed from the historical theatres of the region and freely available by an international audience. It is streamed on June 15 from the Teatro Valli in Reggio Emilia, majestic theatre built between 1852 and 1857.

This is a co-production by Fondazione Teatro Comunale di Modena and Fondazione I Teatri di Reggio Emilia, which reproposes the historic 1989 Parma staging.
Director Massimo Gasparon creates a new dramaturgical perspective of the characters through an emotional and empathetic update, in which the esoteric and develish component has also great importance.

Un ballo in maschera is one of the great operas of Verdi's maturity. Jealousy, betrayal, love and renunciation are combined with an unprecedented lightness and irony in depicting the background on which the poem of an impossible and desperate love unfolds.
As conductor Alessandro D’Agostin explains, “so much diversity of stylistic registers, orchestral colours, and depth of characters tells the audience a story made up of human beings, of emotions and feelings common to each of us, alive and vibrant”.

The appointment is on June 15 at 08:30 pm CET, and the opera will then remain available on OperaStreaming channels.

The season will continue on June 30 with Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro live streamed from the Teatro Comunale di Ferrara, one of the most beautiful examples of “teatro all’italiana”, built between 1773 and 1797.
