OperaStreaming – “Adriana Lecouvreur” by Francesco Cilea

Live from Teatro Regio di Parma on March 24, then available online

OperaStreaming is successfully continuing the 2023 season of Emilia-Romagna opera productions streamed live from the historical theatres of the region and freely available by an international audience.

On March 24 (8:00 pm CET), on the platform YouTube channel, live streaming of Adriana Lecouvreur, opera by Francesco Cilea to a libretto di Arturo Colautti.

It is a new staging by Teatro Regio di Parma in co-production with Teatro Comunale di Modena and Teatro Municipale di Piacenza, which features stage direction by Italo Nunziata and musical direction by Francesco Ivan Ciampa, conducting the Orchestra dell’Emilia-Romagna Arturo Toscanini.

The drama, based on Adrienne Lecouvreur by Eugène Scribe and Ernest Legouvé, takes us in eighteenth-century Paris, between rivals in love and death – the love between the actress Adriana and the Count of Saxony, that is thwarted by the Princess of Bouillon.

Cilea and his librettist skilfully set a story that intertwined the world of theatre with historical reality, as Adriana Lecouvreur really died, like in the opera, from a bouquet of poisoned flowers sent to her under false pretences by her rival.

The music is marked by the spontaneous melodic typical of Cilea, linked to the traditional elements of the Neapolitan school with influences from Massenet and the French opera tradition.

After Adriana Lecouvreur, OperaStreaming programme will continue on March 31 with La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini, live from Teatro Galli di Rimini.
