Instabili Vaganti theatre company in Chile and Argentina

Performances and activities of the “Beyond Borders” international project until November 26

Instabili Vaganti theatre company is on tour in South America with the performance The Global City, the performance–lecture Lockdown Memory and several activities of the Beyond Border international project.

The Global City, born from a text by Nicola Pianzola inspired by Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities, has been staged in a new version on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of the great Italian writer.

It is a metamorphic performance which marks a further stage in the ten-year research by Instabili Vaganti focused on two apparently contrasting poles: memory and travel. The micro-stories collected by the author –a contemporary Marco Polo– in the major metropolises of the planet are artistically recomposed on stage, drawing a dystopian and virtual city of memory.

On last October 15, The Global City was staged in Venezuela, in Caracas, and on November 8 and 9 in Chile, in Alto Hospicio, at the FITDAZ - Festival Internacional de Teatro y Danza, one of the major in Latin America, which has hosted the company many times and which is among the partners of the Beyond Borders project – the international project conceived and directed by Instabili Vaganti which aims to develop new strategies for overcoming the many 'borders' through artistic creation processes on a global level.

Within the festival, in fact, also a working session of the project took place in Iquique on November 2-4.
A further Chilean step of research, exchange, and co-creation is under way in Valparaíso (November 8-9), at the Sala UPLA of the Universidad de Playa Ancha, another partner of the Beyond Borders project, which will also host the performance The Global City on November 10 and 11.

Few days later, on November 14, the show will be on stage in La Pintana, in the Santiago Metropolitan Region, where Anna Dora Dorno and Nicola Pianzola will also direct a workshop (November 14-16).

The tour will continue in Argentina, in Mar del Plata, where the company will direct another workshop and on November 18 will present Lockdown Memory, the performance that testifies to the difficult sociopolitical situation in different countries around the world during the Lockdown combining the life experiences, collected in videos, of international artists with the live performative actions by Instabili Vaganti – a performance capable to tell the complexity of an innovative project such as Beyond Borders, in which theatre, video art, and documentary films are intertwined through a remote collaboration with artists from all over the world.

The company will move again to Chile to present this, and another creation born within the Beyond Borders project: Videodante#Chile, a video trilogy created on the occasion of the celebration of the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri.

On November 23 and 24, in San Esteban and in Los Andes, Anna Dora Dorno, Nicola Pianzola, and Chilean professor and performer Claudio Santana Borquez, who took part in the making of the video, will present – through videos, performative elements, and dramatized readings – the work path undertaken in the making of the web series.

Lastly, on November 26, Lockdown Memory will be presented in Melipilla, in the Santiago Metropolitan Region.

Various organizations and institutions collaborated and contributed to the realization of this long and complex tour, and among others, in particular, the Italian Cultural Institutes in Caracas and Santiago, Emilia-Romagna Region (Assemblea legislativa /Consulta degli emiliano-romagnoli nel mondo and Department of Culture), ATER Fondazione.
