Horacio Czertok guest of the Insula Escénica project first edition in Tenerife
Horacio Czertok, co-founder of Teatro Nucleo, will be in Tenerife as guest of the first edition of Insula Escénica, a project curated by Laboratorio Escénico – creative space in La Laguna and reference point for artistic creation in the Canary Islands.
Insula Escénica is an interdisciplinary artistic-cultural proposal which, starting from the assumption that "theatre is a fundamental tool for social and community revitalization", includes exhibitions, research, dramaturgy, artistic residencies, inclusive creative processes, social interventions and much more. Conceived by director of Laboratorio Escénico Oswaldo Bordón Hernández, it is developed in co-operation with the University of La Laguna - Cátedra de Gestión y Políticas Culturales ULL FECAM and Department of Spanish Philology, the cultural office of the Ayuntamiento de La Laguna, and Hojarasca theatre company.
The Argentine director, dramatist and actor will take part in a series of meetings and training activities with various local bodies and will present the monologue Contra Gigantes - the performance based on Teatro Nucleo’s renowned and awarded show for open spaces QUIJOTE!, that for thirty years has gone through theatres and streets in many countries around the world.
Contra Gigantes points out those giants - a metaphor for the forces that hinder the transformation of society - against whom the errant knight fights. Don Quijote is not the only protagonists: Sancho Panza, Don Miguel de Cervantes and Czertok himself are together with him on stage, all in close relationship with each other and with the spectators, to compose a monodrama with multiple voices, which will give an immediate interpretation of Teatro Nucleo's theatre philosophy and dramaturgical and acting practice.
These are the topics Horacio Czertok will deal with in the conference, the masterclass and the seminar that will take place at the University of La Laguna and at Laboratorio Escénico (April 19 and 20).
The performance Contra Gigantes will be staged at Laboratorio Escénico (April 21 and 22) and at Teatro Leal (April 24).
