France – “Gli anni” by Marco D’Agostin

The choreographer returns to POLE-SUD in Strasbourg with the work conceived with and for Marta Ciappina. March 14-16

Revelation of the new Italian performance scene, Marco D’Agostin returns to POLE-SUD in Strasbourg with Gli anni (The Years), a generational biographical story entrusted to the talent of dancer Marta Ciappina, a singular interpreter as for artistic itinerary and technical peculiarities in the panorama of Italian dance who shares her overwhelming life experiences with the audience inviting them into the brightest and darkest corners of her story.

“In recent years my works have increasingly taken on a narrative trend, – says D’Agostin – but what are the non-explicit forms that a story can take in a choreographic setting? The ambition that I am pursuing is that of tracing signs and motions detached from our iconographies and reference schemes, and which may also transmit to the audience the specific weight of a story. I look for devices, formats and dances that take on the weight of biographies, generating broad and popular readings and interpretations. […] I would never have the audacity to enter similar territory if I didn't know that this work can be done with and for Marta, and that her biography, duetting with that of her family and mankind, can become an enigmatic dance and at the same time within everyone's reach”.

The performance debuted in October 2022, and immediately garnered the approval of the public and critics: “it is one of those works that for conception and intensity are destined to remain etched or even to germinate in the memory of the spectators (Nicola Arrigoni, Sipario).

Gli anni is staged on March 14, 15, and 16 (7pm). Moreover, D’Agostin is one of the artists invited to the cycle of lessons-conferences dedicated to "today's dances" that the POLE-SUD CDCN organizes in collaboration with the University of Strasbourg and the National and University Library (BNU). On March 13, “Récits de corps” (stories of the body), with D’Agostin and dance teacher-researcher Anna Kalyvi (6:30pm at the BNU).
