The Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini at the Dresden Music Festival

On June 8 and 9, two concerts with conductor Omer Meir Wellber and great artists Jan Vogler and Michail Pletnëv

On June 8 and 9, the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini orchestra is the protagonist of two symphony concerts at the Dresden Music Festival – one of the most important festivals in the world, together with conductor Omer Meir Wellber – one of the most admired interpreters of his generation.

Omer Meir Wellber is currently also musical director of the Toscanini Festival (underway in Emilia-Romagna, until August 8), where the concerts were performed on the opening night in Parma, on 5 June.

"As musical director of the Festival, Omer Meir Wellber is building a relationship of great and fruitful friendship with our orchestra, as well as collaboration" – declares Fondazione Toscanini's superintendent and artistic director Alberto Triola. "The two programs are a reflection of this proposal. (…) This is an extraordinary opportunity. We will perform two concerts in Dresden, and we are the only Italian orchestra among the fifteen international ensembles. We will bring the essence of Verdi and, at the same time, an "Italian" Wagner that even conductor Omer Meir Wellber is convinced could be a real surprise for the German audience".

The concert programmes include pieces by three reference composers for Toscanini: Verdi and Wagner – with the Overture from I Vespri Siciliani and form Macbeth, and the Overture from Lohengrin and from Tannhäuser – and Ottorino Respighi – with the Metamorphoseon XII.

Two internationally renowned artists will join the Orchestra: cellist Jan Vogler, performing Shostakovich’s Concert n. 1 (June 8), and pianist Michail Pletnëv, performing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto Nr. 1 (June 9).

The tour is supported by the Italian Cultural Institute in Berlin, Emilia-Romagna Region, Fondazione Parma UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.
