Canada – Teatro Gioco Vita at the 17th Biennale FIAMS - Festival international des arts de la marionnette à Saguenay

The award-winning show “Lady of Porto Pim” on stage on July 28 and 29

The 17th Biennale FIAMS - Festival international des arts de la marionnette à Saguenay, in Québec, takes place from July 25 to 30, a major event dedicated to puppetry which, besides presenting national and international shows, is a place of exchange for professionals.

In the belief that puppetry arts have always been at the forefront of fusing genres, themes and disciplines, this edition wants to question about the current state of puppetry in relation to the many social and cultural changes. The programme offers more than 150 performances of 45 shows by companies and artists from 15 countries, as well as exhibitions, meetings, round tables, workshops, and many other activities for both the public and professionals.

Teatro Gioco Vita presents Lady of Porto Pim, “ballad for actors and shadows” based on the short story by Antonio Tabucchi, a show for an adult audience (from 16 years) that combines contemporary and traditional shadow theatre.

It is a homage to a writer who thought writing was not an occupation «but something that involves desires, dreams and imagination».

In the adaptation by Fabrizio Montecchi –also director and set designer–, the writer himself, in the guise of the actor-manipulator Tiziano Ferrari, tells this story of love and death, and accompanies us through his own testimony made of words, actions, evocations, in this brief journey into the mystery of the human soul.

A very stark stage – a table, a chair, and a wall that doubles as a screen –, hosts an array of shadows manipulated in front and behind the screen, brought to life by the actor’s hands. Clay, sand, wood, and water are some of the materials used to give shape to the carnal and at the same time impalpable characters of this story.

Lady of Porto Pim is on stage on July 28 and 29 (9 pm, at the Centre Culturel Mont Jacob).

Teatro Gioco Vita participates in the Festival with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute in Montreal, Emilia-Romagna Region and ATER Fondazione.
