Aterballetto on tour in France and Spain
Year after year Aterballetto confirms itself as the Emilia-Romagna dance company most active abroad. In 2022 the company performed in Belgium, France, Germany, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, for a total of twenty-six performances of five different shows that were often "sold out".
As evidence of this international success, the company starts the year 2023 with a new tour in Europe, which in January will include France and Spain.
After having danced at the prestigious Opéra Grand Avignon on January 8, Aterballetto will be at the Opéra de Saint-Étienne on January 10 with the same program, the "concert in dance" by Swedish choreographer Johan Inger, Golden Days.
Golden Days starts from the smoky atmospheres of Rain Dogs to finish with the brightness of BLISS passing through the ironic female solo Birdland. The concept and what holds this evening together is the choice of music: Tom Waits, Patti Smith and Keith Jarrett – artists who influenced and helped change a whole generation. The work is pervaded by a hint of history and of nostalgia for a place in the past that seemed simple and free.
The tour will continue in Spain. On January 13, Golden Days will be performed in Sant Cugat del Vallès, a few kilometres from Barcelona (at the Teatre-Auditori Sant Cugat, 8pm), while on January 15 Aterballetto will present another creation in Terrassa, Dreamers #1, triptych composed of Secus - “O” - Shoot me (at LaFACT - Factoria Cultural de Terrassa, 6pm).
Dreamers #1 opens with the visceral Secus, a creation by Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin with an enthralling soundtrack. To follow, "O", the small masterpiece by Philippe Kratz, hypnotic pas de deux with an unstoppable rhythm. The entire group of sixteen Aterballetto dancers closes the evening with Shoot me, a creation by Diego Tortelli on the music by English rock band Spiritualized, an abstract but very tense choreography full of energy.
Aterballetto will be back in France in February, bringing three shows on tour: Golden Days again, Don Juan – another creation by Johan Inger that received the Danza&Danza 2020 award as "Best Production", and Double Side, the new diptych co-produced with the Fondazione Arturo Toscanini, in which the choreographic and musical components “react” with each other in a new way.
