United Arab Emirates – Two excellences of Emilia-Romagna at the Sharjah International Book Fair
The 41st edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) will welcome Italy as Guest of Honor, thanks to the agreement signed by the Embassy of Italy in the United Arab Emirates with the Sharjah Book Authority, which will allow the large local and international public of SIBF 2022 to know and further appreciate Italian culture, its talent, its tradition and the innovation capacity of its creative and cultural industries.
In fact, for the occasion, the Italian Cultural Institute in Abu Dhabi organizes a rich programme of cultural activities in partnership with the Directorates General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy and for Country Promotion of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Ministry of Culture, the Centro per il libro e la lettura, the ITA-Italian Trade Agency/ICE, and the Italian Publishers Association (AIE).
And just at the opening of the event, on November 2, one of the crown jewels of Emilia-Romagna’s and Italy’s cultural scene – Aterballetto dance company – will be on stage.
Once again, the Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto, the first and only National Choreographic Centre, represents Italian dance and culture in events of international relevance, as an excellent example of the “Made in Italy”, a perfect combination of tradition and openness to innovation and contemporary culture.
After having performed at Expo Dubai 2020 the virtual reality project Virtual Dance for Real People, the Company returns to the United Arab Emirates with A Poetry Abstraction, a creation by Diego Tortelli – a choreographer that FND / Aterballetto has successfully supported since 2018.
The performance is a narration of lines, plastic figures, and geometries with the live music by cellist Daniela Savoldi (Ballroom, 6 pm).
The event is made in co-operation with ATER Fondazione.
Another of Emilia-Romagna’s and Italy’s cultural excellences will also be on display at the SIBF: Bologna Children’s Book Fair, which after having hosted the Emirate of Sharjah Guest of Honor in Bologna this year, is at the SIBF with its own stand.
It is the second stage of the Grand Tour which engages the Fair in an intense calendar from October to December in the most important international Book Fairs, from Frankfurt to Sharjah to Montreal up to Guadalajara.
