Romania – Teatro dei Venti at the TESZT festival

The superb “Moby Dick” staged in Timișoara on May 28

After having opened the events of Procida Italian Capital of Culture 2022, Teatro dei Venti takes the ship of Moby Dick to Romania, at the TESZT - Euroregional Theatre Festival in Timișoara.

The international festival organized by the "Csiky Gergely" Hungarian State Theatre in Timișoara aims to promote the knowledge of multiculturalism acting as a platform for exchange and a forum for dialogue between artists and professionals and presenting the latest trends in the neighbour and Western Europe Countries’ dramaturgy to its audience. The 13th edition, taking place from May 22 to 29, hosts companies from Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, France, Germany, Italy, North Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia, as well as from Romania.

Teatro dei Venti is on stage on May 28 in Timișoara's central, historic square Victoriei with the amazing Moby Dick (at 08:00 pm).

The show – awarded the 2019 Ubu Prize for stage design (to director Stefano Tè and stage designers Dino Serra and Massimo Zanelli) – is a huge theatrical machine with a crew of twenty artists –actors, musicians, acrobats, and technicians– engaged in the challenge of bringing a classic of world literature and the great themes it embraces to the streets.

Just like in a great shipyard, board after board, lines, ropes and poles, the sailors build the Pequod, a skeletal, unreal ship that, by a meticulous work of machinery, will become a whale.
There are battles, sudden storms, joyful raids throughout the show, while stories come to surface and characters emerge. The shadow of Captain Ahab and his obscure desire for revenge weigh down on everyone, until the final face-to-face fight with Moby Dick.

The Emilia-Romagna Region, which supports Teatro dei Venti’s activities and sponsored the production of the show, supports also the tour at the TESZT festival in collaboration with ATER Fondazione.
