Germany – "Tutto brucia" by Motus
Great expectations in Hamburg for the German première of Tutto brucia (Everything burns), the latest project by Motus, the theatre company founded by Enrico Casagrande and Daniela Nicolò: from December 1st to 3rd (at 8 pm), the performance is staged at the Kampnagel Kulturfabrik, where two years ago Silvia Calderoni thrilled Hamburg audiences with the globally successful production MDLSX.
Tutto brucia is a very personal re-interpretation of Euripides' The Trojan Women through the words of various contemporary authors, including J.-P. Sartre, Judith Butler, Ernesto De Martino. Silvia Calderoni is on stage with dancer Stefania Tansini and R.Y.F. (Francesca Morello), who provides the live soundtrack.
The atmosphere is dark, sinister, gloomy. The tragedy begins with the end: on the scorched ground of the just-fallen city, the women of Troy begin their tale of wounded and raped bodies. The voices of Hecuba, Andromache, Cassandra, Polyxena, Helen resonate like an echo in the present, and give voice to today's victims and despair.
And, as stated by the authors, “never more than now does mourning appear to us as a political issue”.
