German premiere of "Double side" by Aterballetto

On December 9 and 10 at the Theater Im Pfalzbau in Ludwigshafen (and on OperaVision until February 25, 2023)

Aterballetto dance company has just returned from a long tour between France and Spain with two shows created by choreographer Johan Inger, Golden Days and Don Juan, for a total of eleven performances in nine theatres, always sold out.

Aterballetto’s activities abroad restart immediately on December 9 and 10 with the German premiere of Double Side in Ludwigshafen, in the prestigious Theater Im Pfalzbau, co-producer of the evening.

Double Side is the new co-production by Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto and Fondazione Arturo Toscanini in Parma – a research and an adventure that the two institutions share with the aim of "making choreographic and musical components react" in a new and meaningful way.

On stage, two opposite poles represented by Stabat Mater by Cuban choreographer Norge Cedeño Raffo and With drooping wings by Canadian choreographer Danièle Desnoyers, and bound together by a lively aesthetic architecture designed by Fabiana Piccioli.

The dark, gloomy atmosphere associated with the religious and touching music by Arvo Pärt is enhanced by the expressive, free, and pure dance by Norge Cedeño Raffo, a hymn to the beauty of movement. The extrovert imprint and light, clearly encapsulated in the nine iridescent pieces of music by Henry Purcell recomposed for a string quartet by Federico Gon, flow from the dance by Danièle Desnoyers. The gesture is not overwhelmed by the famous Baroque scores but attempts to create interesting harmonies and disharmonies with the strings on stage.

The world premiere of Double side was last October at the Teatro Municipale Romolo Valli in Reggio Emilia, within the Festival Aperto. Thanks to the partnership between Fondazione I Teatri di Reggio Emilia and OperaVision, this evening was recorded and is now available on the platform until February 25, 2023.
