France – "Modena Città del Belcanto" Concert

On October 14 at the Opéra Grand Avignon, special event on the occasion of the "Semaine Italienne d’Avignon"

Thanks to its musical tradition and the appeal exerted by great names of opera, Modena has always been a must for those who wish to perfect their vocal techniques and presence on stage. Many former students of Mirella Freni and Raina Kabaivanska are now renowned singers who perform in the most important theatres around the world.

It is in this context that the project “Modena città del BelCanto” was born. It has two main objectives: the training and professional growth of young opera singers; the musical production and the enhancement of the cultural offer of the territory.

To promote the young talents and introduce the initiatives of the project to the press, to cultural professionals, and opera lovers, the Teatro Comunale ‘Pavarotti-Freni’ has organized a series of international events, with concerts featuring the students of the courses taking place in Modena.

On October 14, three students of the Modena Belcanto advanced training course –sopranos Aida Pascu and Fiammetta Tofoni, and tenor Carlo Eugenio Raffaelli, accompanied by Francesca Pivetta on piano, will perform at the Opéra Grand Avignon (h 08 pm). The musical programme is dedicatet to Verdi and Puccini, and introduces the Italian melodrama through two representative aspects of the romantic period, different from the vocality, the genre, and the musical poetics points of view.

The concert at the Opéra Grand Avignon is a special event on the occasion of the Semaine Italienne d’Avignon - Bella Italia 2022 – a festival promoted by the Commune of Avignon, the Consulate General of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Marseille, and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in France, that animates the French city with theatre, music, cinema and gastronomy.

The “Modena Città del BelCanto” project has been presented in various European contexts since last year. In 2022, the appointments were, in addition to this one in France, in Denmark and Spain.

On last September 22, in Copenhagen, soprano Arianna Cimolin –a student of Raina Kabaivanska, tenor Matteo Lippi –a student of Mirella Freni, and Francesca Pivetta on piano performed arias by Verdi and Puccini.

On September 28, in Madrid, pianist Paolo Andreoli, collaborator of Raina Kabaivanska and of the Pavarotti Foundation, soprano Iolanda Massimo, and tenor Vincenzo Tremante –two other students of Modena Belcanto, were particularly successful performing a program dedicated to famous pieces of the Neapolitan tradition, from the eighteenth-century opera to the classic Neapolitan song.

Other international appointments are expected in 2023.

The “Modena Città del BelCanto” project is promoted by Fondazione di Modena, Comune di Modena, Fondazione Teatro Comunale, and the Institute of Musical Studies ‘Vecchi - Tonelli’.

The concerts were organized with the precious support by the Italian Cultural Institutes in Marseille, Madrid, and Copenhagen. The series of international events is supported by Emilia-Romagna Region and ATER Fondazione.
