Belgium – “Amore” by Pippo Delbono
Great expectations at the KVS in Brussels for the return of Pippo Delbono on February 12 and 13, performing his latest creation Amore, an international coproduction by ERT - Emilia Romagna Teatro Fondazione.
The new show by the director together with the historical actors of his company was made after two rehearsal periods in residence in Portugal (in Setúbal and Lisbon), in a theatrical journey with Portuguese artists from different disciplines – including renowned guitarist and composer Pedro Joia, twice Carlos Paredes Prize; fado singer Miguel Ramos and set designer Joana Villaverde – and Angolan writer and musician Aline Frazão, author of the soundtrack of the film Ar Condicionado (2020) by director Fradique, born Mário Bastos, one of the most talented voices of African contemporary cinema.
The performance expresses Pippo Delbono’s search in the footsteps of a word: "love", which is not only a feeling, but also a state of the soul. Amore is a musical and poetic journey through an outer geography – Portugal, Angola, Cape Verde – and an inner geography, the one of the strings of the soul that resonate at the slightest beat of life. Pippo Delbono has always created show in which the boundary between life and theatre becomes thin, and there is a reflection on the meaning of our present days at the centre of this work, after the experience of loss and detachment the pandemic brought with it.
«After all that has happened – says the artist –, let us start again from here, from this constant state of research, and let us continue with more Love. Without it, we will be back to square one, and this horrific time will have taught us nothing. Let us instead return to our lives with a renewed consciousness. Let us return to a time when the word had its own meaning, to a moment and a place when we loved one another, and let us talk of Love with the nostalgia of fado, chasing away the overpowering presence of death».
