"The New Generation of Italian Children’s Illustrators"
Bologna Children’s Book Fair (online edition, from June 14 to 17) is the frame in which the new exhibition Italian Excellence. The New Generation of Italian Children’s Illustrators is presented.
It is the third edition of a successful project promoting Italian children’s illustration in the world Bologna Children’s Book Fair and Emilia-Romagna Region have been carrying out for many years and that is now shared by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to enrich the portrait of Italian creativity in the world with a new chapter.
After the worldwide success of the two previous “Italian Excellence” exhibitions – Illustration for Children and Illustrators for Gianni Rodari – which displayed well-known illustrators and toured a total of over thirty countries, this third edition presents the works by twenty of the most promising young Italian illustrators (aged between 23 and 35), some of them born in Emilia-Romagna or working here.
The selection focused on the quality of drawing, the originality of content, the poetic vision and ability in interpreting the classics and producing new and surprising proposals for the publishing world. Each artist is represented by four illustrations created using the technique of their choice: manual, digital or mixed.
The exhibition was chosen as top event of the Italy Pavilion on the occasion of Emilia-Romagna Region’s presence at Expo Dubai, which is just one of the many steps of the geographic and narrative long journey around the world the exhibit will set out on in the months ahead.
