The Netherlands – "Best Regards" by Marco D’Agostin
The works by Marco D’Agostin – winner of the UBU Prize as best performer under 35 – question the role and functioning of memory and focus on the relationship between performer and spectator. Dance – a complex geography in which sounds, words and movements constantly collide – tends towards “the emotional compromise” of the ones who perform and the ones who watch.
With Best Regards Marco D’Agostin celebrates the memory of Nigel Charnock, performer and co-founder of the DV8 Physical Theater, died in 2012. D'Agostin worked with Charnock in 2010 and that experience marked a clear line in his way of thinking about dance: “For me, Niegel represented the possibility that on stage anything could happen and explode”.
Best Regards is the letter Marco D’Agostin writes to Charnock eight years late and celebrates him with a performance in which he tries, together with the audience, to answer the question: what would you write to someone who will never read your words?
On July 14 and 15, in Amsterdam, Dutch premiere of Best Regards within the Julidans festival, important international appointment for contemporary dance taking place yearly on various locations in the city. After a year of lockdowns and livestreams, the Festival 30th edition has chosen the motto: NEVER STOP DANCING.
Best Regards is an internationl coproduction by VAN, a Bologna based cultural association that sustains, produces and distributes performances and projects by eight choreographers.
