The MIC Faenza flies to the United Arab Emirates with 31 works
The MIC International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza participates with an important loan of works from its collections in the exhibition Drop by Drop, Life Falls from the Sky: Water, Islam and Art, set at the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization until December 11, 2021.
The exhibition is organized by Sharjah Museums Authority in collaboration with Fondazione Torino Musei – the first ever co-operation between the two institutions. This joint effort seeks to highlight the common heritage that links Italy to the Arab-Islamic world. The official opening on last June 9th was attended by the Ambassador of Italy in the United Arab Emirates, the Consul General of Italy in Dubai, and the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Abu Dhabi, besides the Sharjah Museums authorities.
The four sections of the exhibition explore the special relationship between water and Islam from its most ancient roots to its numerous and intricate developments, the many roles played by water in daily life, the artistic embodiment of this element in the shapes and purposes of the Arabic and Islamic arts and artefacts.
Among the 120 artistic works, 31 are from the MIC’s collection, some of them really very important in the history of oriental ceramics, such as: the star-shaped tile, production of Iran (1282-1283); a plate, production of Iznik, Turkey (last quarter 16th century); an amphora, production of Manises (Valencia, Spain, c. 1480-1530); a jug, production of Jingdezhen (China, 18th century).
