Ravenna and Le Vie di Dante top destinations for 2021

The recognitions by The Times and Lonely Planet

According to The Times, Ravenna is one of the 10 best art and history holidays for 2021. The newspaper online edition mentioned the city in an article published in January, recommending the top 100 trips for the year.

The mosaics of the Early Christian monuments of Ravenna –UNESCO heritage– are the breath-taking show not to be missed. The article emphasizes the “sparkling” mosaics in contrast to the “dark” history of the British Middle Ages, when Ravenna became the capital of the Ostrogoth kings and of the Byzantine governors, and these masterpieces were done.

According to Lonely Planet, Le Vie di Dante are Best in Travel 2021. In its world report on must-see destinations, Lonely Planet has identified Le Vie di Dante –the only Italian destination– in the sustainability category as a model of slow tourism.

Le Vie di Dante are dedicated to the places the Sommo Poeta crossed during his exile, between Tuscany and Romagna. The itinerary may be covered by bike, on foot or by train along the ancient Faenza/Florence railway, between art and culture, nature and food and wine, to discover ancient palaces, Romanesque churches, century-old woods, small villages, artisan shops, typical products, and much more.

The project by the regional tourist boards of Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany (APT Servizi Regione Emilia-Romagna, Toscana Promozione Turistica) is linked to the celebration of the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri, and to the promotion of the many related events.
