Japan – Screening of “I due Foscari” by Giuseppe Verdi
The Italian Cultural Institute in Tokyo proposes a series of screenings of Giuseppe Verdi’s operas, selected amongst the best productions by the Teatro Regio di Parma and its Festival Verdi –the only festival exclusively devoted to studying and staging the works by the celebrated composer.
The operas on the programme are introduced by critics and experts.
On April 22, at 06:00 p.m., screening of I due Foscari conducted by Donato Renzetti and staged by Joseph Franconi Lee.
Presented in the 2009 edition of Festival Verdi, it was produced by ABAO of Bilbao and Teatro Verdi di Trieste in co-production with Teatro Regio di Parma and Teatro Comunale Luciano Pavarotti di Modena.
In the role of the Doge of Venice, Leo Nucci, one of the most appreciated baritone voices in the international opera scene.
Nucci has always had a special relationship with Parma, its Theatre and the opera tradition of Verdi’s land: Honorary Citizen of Parma, awarded with the “Verdi d’oro - Città di Busseto” prize, the great baritone sang in the Teatro Regio more than a hundred times, above all performing roles of Verdi’s works.
Before the screening, renowned opera specialist Kahara Toshi introduces I due Foscari.
