Greece – World premiere of "MicroDanze" by Aterballetto
On October 9 and 10, in Athens, world premiere of MicroDanze, a special project by Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto combining dance, visual art, public art and virtual reality.
The MicroDanze are non-frontal and non-rigid choreographies, but permeable to the spatial context, able to dialogue with different disciplinary universes to promote intimacy between dancer and spectator.
Twelve Italian and international choreographers have conceived short creations – six to eight minutes, to be danced in a minimum space – to be watched in series like visiting a museum.
The project escapes the dynamics of the stage, the distance that separates the spectator from the performer, and creates a continuum between those who watch and those who are watched, stimulating an emotional and aesthetic experience as varied as it is original.
The premiere of MicroDanze in Athens coincides with the first performance stage of “An Ideal City” - international project which aims to “explore the potential of dance as a public art, rooted in an urban landscape”. Co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union, it is coordinated by the Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto in partnership with Les Halles de Schaerbeek (Brussels) and the Greek National Opera Ballet (Athens).
In Athens, the twelve MicroDanze by Aterballetto are joined by nine other creations by Greek choreographers and dancers, with the artistic coordination of the Opera Ballet of Athens, directed by Konstantinos Rigos.
The performances are set in places of great cultural importance – the Acropolis Museum, the EMST Museum (the National Museum of Contemporary Art), the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, a building designed by Renzo Piano and home of the Greek National Opera – and compose an itinerary, curated by director Fabio Cherstich, celebrating the 200th anniversary of the 1821 revolution that led to Greek independence.
The activities of Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto are supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture (MiC), Emilia-Romagna Region, and the Municipality of Reggio Emilia. The world premiere in Athens is supported by MiC - Direzione Spettacolo, and by the Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Athens within the Tempo Forte Italia-Grecia cultural program.
