Gramophone Awards 2021 nomination for Accademia Bizantina

The ensamble selected as “Orchestra of the Year”. Our invitation to cast your votes online (until September 13)

The nominations for this year's Gramophone’s Orchestra of the Year Award have been announced on July 1st and Accademia Bizantina is one of the 10 selected orchestras – the only Italian on the short-list.

It is a prestigious (and well-deserved) recognition to the work of studying and reviewing of the music repertoire Accademia Bizantina has always pursued with a philological approach and great attention to the performance practices and the choice of instruments.

The artists conducted by Ottavio Dantone declare themselves to be happy and honoured to share this nomination with the other candidates – orchestras of the highest level such as the Academy of Ancient Music (UK), the Bamberger Symphoniker (Germany), the Berliner Philharmoniker (Germany), The Cleveland Orchestra (USA), the Philharmonia Orchestra (UK), the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (Canada), the Minnesota Orchestra (USA), the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (Singapore), the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich (Switzerland).

The 10 shortlisted ensambles were chosen by Gramophone’s specialists, but the award is decided on by public vote.

As we can read in the Gramophone’s announce, “Nomination comes as a result of each ensemble impressing our editors and reviewers by its work on record, and all 10 have released magnificent and often thought-provoking new albums over the past 12 months”.

To help the audience’s decision, Gramophone created 11 playlists in lossless audio – one for each ensemble, as well as a dynamic playlist that will be updated throughout the summer.

Voting opens on July 1 and remains live until September 13.

The Orchestra of the Year will be revealed on October 5 at the 2021 Gramophone Classical Music Awards.

We invite you all to listen to Accademia Bizantina and cast your votes!
