France – International premiere of "Dante Solo Inferno" by Artemis Danza
The influences from different artistic, cultural and geographic fields are central elements in Monica Casadei’s artistic research are and in the year in which the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri is celebrated worldwide, the choreographer pays tribute to the Sommo Poeta of Western culture with a new project that explores, in particular, the first cantica of the 'Commedia'.
Dante Solo Inferno, produced in collaboration with Ravenna Festival, premiered in Italy last September and now arrives in France for its first international appointment.
On November 9 the performance is staged in Lyon (at the Palais de la Mutualité, 07:00pm) thanks to the collaboration and support by the Italian Cultural Institute in Lyon, which is dedicating an extensive program of events and activities to Dante's celebrations.
In Dante Solo Inferno, the dancers redraw the contours of that inhospitable land, where torments of the damned serve their sentence. The choreographic movements become a mirror of the torment, the bodies are shaped in torsions, syncopations, contractures, insoluble weaves.
Paolo and Francesca da Rimini, Pier Della Vigna in the forest of suicides, Tiresias, Ulysses, Minos are some of the characters chosen by Monica Casadei to investigate the human soul, in a path that from the awareness of sin goes beyond condemnation, towards compassion and acceptance of human nature.
Dante Solo Inferno by Artemis Danza is a constantly evolving journey, part of a wider project of exploration that took shape also in the creations Ombre and Frammenti di Inferno.
The performance will continue its international tour overseas: on November 17 it will be on stage in Toronto.
