Canada – ATER at the CINARS Biennale 2021

The Foundation presents seven artistic organizations based in Emilia-Romagna. From May 25 to 28

ATER Fondazione promotes Emilia-Romagna cultural excellences in the world and starts participating in CINARS Biennale - Conférence internationale des arts de la scène, a world-wide showcase for the performing arts, this year taking place online from May 25 to 28 as CINARS Web 2021.

ATER participation in this important international event signs the launch of one of the new functions the Emilia-Romagna regional govern assigned to the Foundation: promoting abroad performing arts artists and organizations based in Emilia-Romagna and facilitating contact and partnerships with the main organizations the world over and –in parallel– the collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI).

CINARS Biennale, organized in Montreal since 1984, is an unmissable reference point in the context of international promotion. The 2021 edition is attended by 850 professionals from all continents: exhibitors, operators and artists can meet and know each other – though virtually –, watch the creations and dialogue with the artists, carrying out networking activities and establishing future relations.

ATER’s virtual booth showcases artistic proposals ranging from dance to music, to theatre and presents some of the most interesting and some of the most prominent organizations of Emilia-Romagna cultural scene, for a total amount of 7 companies and 14 performances.

As for dance, Ginevra Panzetti/ Enrico Ticconi artistic duo and choreorapher Marco D’Agostin are on the platform. Panzetti&Ticconi – a group already winner of important dance awards – presents the performance Harleking, while Marco D’Agostin – choreographer awarded UBU Prize 2018 – proposes Best regards. Moreover, on the eve of the world premiere, the young artists will present together their last creations ARA! ARA! & SAGA, both selected and supported by the “New Settings” programme of the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès of Paris.

As for theatre, Ravenna based Fanny & Alexander company – whose creations are characterized by the experimentation of methods and disciplines – has chosen to display two original projects very different from each other: History of a Friendship, based on The Neapolitan Novels by Elena Ferrante, and The Garden, a video installation-concert for theatre or exhibition spaces.
Also Bologna based Kepler-452 young theatre company presents two creations: Comizi d’amore, a project of participative theatre inspired by Pier Paolo Pasolini, and Lapsus urbano, itinerant performance with audioguide conceived as a response to the restrictions imposed by the long lockdown period.

The richness of Emilia-Romagna music production is represented by Soqquadro Italiano, one of the most innovative groups in the European panorama, who puts on display the show La Stravaganza, fresh from a tour in Russia, and the now famous Stabat Mater, that will be on tour in Spain in July.

A special space dedicated to the Emilia-Romagna most consolidated dance companies could not be missing at CINARS Web 2021.

Fondazione Nazionale della Danza/Aterballetto points out the re-start of its programming with the upcoming debute of Storie, a choreography by Diego Tortelli and Philippe Kratz, and with Dreamers, a triple bill by Ohad Naharin, Rihoko Sato, and Philippe Kratz.

MM Contemporary Dance Company, which in the last seasons had performed in Canada many times, now is virtually back with two creations: Love Poems, a triple bill with choreography by Mauro Bigonzetti, Michele Merola, and Thomas Noone, and Carmen/Bolero, with choreography by Emanuele Soavi and Michele Merola.

Finally, ATER’s booth includes the presentation of the project “Opera Streaming”, the first regional portal in Italy offering opera productions by and from its historical theatres, and highlights the celebration programme "DANTE 700 in the World", in which ATER is involved with important projects developed in collaboration with the network of Embassies, Consulates, and Italian Cultural Institutes the world over.
