"The Load" by Giulia Giapponesi among the ten Italian short films to be promoted around the world
Every year, the Italian Short Film Center, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, makes ten Italian short films available for free to Embassies, Consulates and Italian Cultural Institutes around the world, which can propose them in their cultural programme, as some are doing on the occasion of the third edition of ‘Fare cinema’.
The shorts are selected among the most interesting and representative works carried out in the very recent years, and The Load by Giulia Giapponesi is included in the proposals of 2020.
Shot in Tresigallo – an evocative and metaphysical town in the province of Ferrara, the short is set in a dystopian future where the birth rate is in decline. The government applies harsh measures to women who don’t do their part to increase the population. At the annual declaration, where women must explain why they haven’t yet given birth, two women meet – Bianca, who is 18 and plays bassoon, Vittoria, who is 47, and they are instantly driven to make a choice that could radically change their destiny.
The Load, written and directed by Giulia Giapponesi, interpreted by Sofia Abbati, young actress from Ravenna at her film debut, was produced by Maxman Coop and supported by the Emilia-Romagna Film Commission, and is distributed by Sayonara Film and Elenfant Distribution.
