French premiere of “Don Juan” by Aterballetto

The dance company’s new show on stage in Paris from October 14 to 17

Great expectation in Paris for Aterballetto and Don Juan by choreographer Johan Inger. The Company’s new creation on stage from October 14 to 17 opens the new season of the Théâtre National de Chaillot and has already been acclaimed by the French press. «In Aterballetto’s interpretation, dance asserts itself as a great storyteller which carries the audience away unconditionally and without restraint», is one of the many appreciative comments.

Don Juan was born from Johan Inger's desire "to face" Don Juan/Don Giovanni, an ancient and still contemporary, truly paradigmatic myth.

Inger and the playwright Gregor Acuña-Pohl read twenty-five different texts inspired by Don Juan, and this Don Juan features all the characters of the story.

Underlining tones and emotions, the dance becomes a ‘magnifying glass’ for each of the characters, revealing the inner world of men and women on stage and the complexity of dialogue between genres.

«My Don Juan carries a trauma that shaped him into his questionable behaviour. He is unable to commit and can only find satisfaction in the moment», says Inger. So, in connection with the contemporary world, the performance draws a world inhabited by a character who makes a journey through loneliness without escaping the shallowness that seems to be the distinctive character of these days and age.

The warm welcome to Aterballetto by the Théâtre National de Chaillot is also revealed in a series of side events involving the Company.

From October 14 to 18, an exhibition is set in the Galeries des Nabis of the theatre, displaying 18 photographs by Toni Thorimbert shot to six dancers of the company for In/Finito, a site-specific project of dance and photography for urban, historical or natural venues, and on October 16 the performance In/Finito is staged in the same spaces.
Two other events have been organized with Accès culture for blind and visually impaired people: a tactile and descriptive backstage visit and an atelier with a dancer of the company.

The tour is supported by the Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Paris.
