Spain – The Teatro dei Risvegli in Valencia
The Teatro dei risvegli (Theatre of awakenings) is a project dedicated to people with coma outcomes. It has been carried out through theatre laboratories by the “Amici di Luca” association in Bologna since 2003.
This innovative experience has become a consolidated practice in the processes of re-socialization of people suffering from coma experiences, as the applied method helps the patients to recover not only their physical and mental function but also the capacity to relate to themselves and to others.
«Theatre is necessary, – says Fulvio De Nigris, director of the Centro Studi per la Ricerca sul Coma – it cancels the differences and has a therapeutic role like an additional, unconventional medicine».
«Meeting Shakespeare is a further challenge - Alessandra Cortesi writes in the director’s notes. «Hamlet is a text including everything. In its words, one can find love, tragedy, comedy, struggle, death and non-death. The human being sounded in every aspect».
So, the text of Hamlet has been adapted to make it shorter and nearer to the habits of a group used to express by mean of playing, in not much verbal and very free situations.
Hamlet experience 2.0, realized in co-operation with TeatroAperto/Teatro Dehon of Bologna, is staged by the Group ‘Dopo…di Nuovo, gli amici di Luca’, one of the two permanent theatre laboratories of the Casa dei Risvegli Luca De Nigris, public structure of the Azienda Usl -Local Health Authority of Bologna.
On the occasion of the 21st Italian National Day of Awakenings for research on coma, under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic, and of the 5th European Day of Awakenings, under the High Patronage of the European Parliament, the show arrives in Valencia thanks to the support by Emilia-Romagna Region Culture Dept, for the Spanish National Day of Brain Damage promoted by the Spanish association Nueva Opcion. The Municipalities of Bologna and Valencia also contributed, in the frame of the twinning of the two cities.
The staging of the performance is associated with meetings, workshops, theatre laboratories and a photo exhibit.
