New awards and recognitions for Romeo Castellucci in Europe
Director, stage designer, visual artist, Romeo Castellucci is famous worldwide as one of the most prominent avant-garde theater artists.
His creations have been represented in the most important international theatres and theatre festivals in more than fifty Countries.
Since some years, Castellucci co-founder with Claudia Castellucci and Chiara Guidi of the theatre company based in Cesena Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio (now: Societas), has applied himself to opera at the rate of three directions a year for the most important European opera houses, receiving prestigious recognitions.
The last is a ‘triple award’ for Salome, set in 2018 for the Salzburg Festival, performed by the Wiener Philharmoniker under the conduction by Franz Welser-Möst: through the Opernwelt magazine, fifty international music critics awarded Salome as “Best Production” and Castellucci as “Best Director” and “Best Designer” of the 2018-2019 season.
In 2017, Castellucci was awarded with another Opernwelt for Jeanne d'Arc au Bûcher by Arthur Honegger, opera which this year has also received two “Golden Mask” -the most prestigious award in Russia- as “Best Production” and for “Best Designer”.
Moreover, Romeo Castellucci, formerly appointed Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters of the French Republic, is being nominated Member of the Accadémie Royale de Belgique, historic Academy for science and arts founded in 1772.

In these days, Castellucci is in Cyprus at the “KYPRIA” International Festival, where the show Julius Caesar. Spared parts is staged, in mid-October he will be in Clermont-Ferrand, France, with the show Democracy in America, while his next opera direction will be Mozart’s Don Giovanni in Salzburg in 2020.
