France – The Centro Cinema Cesena at the Festival du Film Italien de Villerupt
The 42nd edition of the Festival du Film Italien de Villerupt opened in Villerupt on October 25th.
This year, the main theme chosen by the Festival is the region Basilicata, as Matera is the European Capital of Culture in 2019, while the traditional section “Carte blanche”, curated by Italian director, journalist and film critic Mario Sesti, is a tribute to Mario Monicelli.
These paths are enriched by two film stills exhibitions curated by the Centro Cinema Città di Cesena, historical partner of the Festival.
The exhibit Cinema in Basilicata proposes images of films shot in Matera and in the region, often chosen as cinematic scenario by national and international productions thanks to its uncontaminated nature and intact landscapes.
Passing from the revolutionary The Gospel According to St. Matthew by Pier Paolo Pasolini (1964) to the extreme The Passion of the Christ by Mel Gibson (2004) -just to remember two famous titles- we come to nowadays with Moschettieri del Re – La penultima missione by Giovanni Veronesi (2018).
The exhibition Homage to Monicelli remembers the salient moments of the unique path of a director who used irony and a smile to look at the contemporary world.
All images come from the Centro Cinema Città di Cesena’s copious archives and the exhibits are curated by the director Antonio Maraldi.
