Spain – PANORAMA by Motus theatre company
The Grec Festival of Barcelona is a reference point in the European festival calendar and, with its proposal of theatre, dance, music and circus, wants to be "a window open to the world".
Motus theatre company has been guest of the Festival with “surprising and multidisciplinary” performances since 2009. Now they are back to this 42th edition with their last work, PANORAMA, coproduced, amongst others, by the Festival itself.
This project is ideally part of the company’s research on being “other” and “elsewhere” started with MDLSX, which focuses on the issues of border and conflict: from the tensions on the boundaries lived inside our own body, to the conflicts connected to the “interstitial” communities on the move, seeking new dwellings.
As the director Daniela Nicolò explains, Panorama arises from the bio-geographic live paths of the actors of the interethnic Great Jones Repertory Company based in New York.
«We decided to focus our research on these artists’ experiences moving into the American megalopolis and struggling for having that piece of plastic called Green Card (…) The registered interviews became so interesting that we decided to maintain this scenic form, using the model of a false camera test».
Telling about different lives and cultures, by mean of interviews, video footage, sounds, words and scenic actions, new existential panoramas are drawn, where nomadism becomes an intrinsic property of existence and of being an artist, putting to the test any attempt to fix people, nationalities, races, professions in unchangeable categories.
