The exhibition “Illustrators for Gianni Rodari” in Cezc Republic and United Kingdom

Set in Prague until September 30 and in Pilsen in October, ‘virtual’ in London until December 31

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Gianni Rodari’s birth, the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague presents the exhibition Ilustrace pro Gianni Rodariho – Italské skvosty. Opened on last September 3rd at the presence of the Ambassador of Italy in Prague Francesco Saverio Nisio, the exhibit will run until September 30th.

Illustrators for Gianni Rodari. Italian Excellence was planned and carried out by Bologna Children’s Book Fair and Emilia-Romagna Region for this anniversary, in coherence and continuity with another exhibition dedicated to Italian illustration, presented to great acclaim in more than 10 countries.
This ‘new edition’ displays the works by Italian illustrators who have interpreted Rodari, whose works are re-printed year after year, and often re-interpreted by great illustrators who, together with the author, have been ‘solicitors of fantasy’.

The exhibit, curated by Cooperativa Giannino Stoppani/Accademia Drosselmeier, presents works by twenty-one Italian illustrators, ranging from historic figures and famous contemporary artists to the younger generation. From Bruno Munari to Emanuele Luzzati, from Altan to Beatrice Alemagna, from Alessandro Sanna to Valerio Vidali, just to name a few, each illustrator is represented by three works.

The Italian Cultural Institute in Prague celebrates Rodari also with didactic and ludic activities. A space for educational dedicated to children and school groups is set in the room adjacent to the exhibit, and on September 19th, the Institute organizes Fantagiochiamo con Rodari, an event in Italian language for families with kids. Through the exhibition, everybody will be able to explore the wonderful world of the master of Italian literature for children.

Then, from October 6, the exhibit will be set in Pilsen, in the regional Library.

The celebrations of the centenary of Gianni Rodari’s birth are underway also in London, but taking place in virtual mode.

The Italian Cultural Institute in London has published the exhibit Illustrators for Gianni Rodari on its website, available online until December 31st.

Moreover, the Institute has carried out the project The Audio Telephone Tales by Gianni Rodari, fifteen audio stories from Telephone Tales, possibly the best known collection of short stories by Rodari.
First published in Italian by Einaudi Ragazzi in 1962, Telephone Tales is now released in English by Enchanted Lion Books translated by Antony Shugaar.

The Institute invites to listen to Gianni Rodari's Tales for free on su Spotify, Apple Podcast, Acast or Libsyn until December 31st, 2020.
