Revolution starts from confinement. A hypothesis of political theatre

Conventions/Seminars/Meetings

.
Third webinar of THE CIRCLE IN EXPANSION - The space of theatre in dialogue between borders, pandemic, revolution and Eutopia – the online forum of the Beyond Borders project.

The meeting is intended to be a moment of reflection and intercultural confrontation capable of investigating the particular historical period we are experiencing.
If we accept the paradox – analysed in the previous meetings – of the existence of 'walls that open' and the hypothesis that theatre is the channel for a positive contagion, we can now start a further reflection, and that is whether this fertile disease may be considered a real revolution.

Panelists:
Anna Dora Dorno and Nicola Pianzola - artistic directors of Instabili Vaganti theatre company
Sabera Shaik, Masakini Theatre artistic director (Malaysia)
Brahma Prakash Singh, Professor of Theatre and Performing Arts Studies at the Jawaharlal Nehru University of New Delhi (India)
Ali Shams, theatre director (Iran)
Parnab Mukherjee, theatre director (India)
Pankuri Sinha, journalist (India)
Bree Alexander, actress joining the project (Australia).

Moreover, during the meeting some episodes of the web series 8 ½ Theatre Clips will be shown. They were made exactly in a situation of “confinement” and the whole series is a revolutionary work as it could break down several borders, not only those due to the pandemic but also the cultural and political ones that limit the freedom of expression of a country like Iran.

THE CIRCLE IN EXPANSION - The space of theatre in dialogue between borders, pandemic, revolution and Eutopia
online forum of the Beyond Borders project
February 27 / March 13 / April 3 and 24

This series of meetings aims at studying the difficult notion of "theatrical space" and its metaphysical / political dimension. In fact, theatre is metaphysical, as it suggests there are many things or events that escape our usual language and our perception. It is also political, as it uses such intuition to guide our imagination and actions towards a different and happier reality. When metaphysics and politics meet, good utopias or “eutopias” arise.
The Forum will be in English, moderated by Jesus Quintero (US) and with the philosophical introduction by Enrico Piergiacomi.

Joining the meetings together with Instabili Vaganti, the partners of the Beyond Borders Project: ATER Fondazione, L'arboreto Teatro Dimora di Mondaino, La Mama Umbria International, La Mama New York, Festival Cross Currents Washington DC, FINTDANZ and FITICH Festivals Chile, Culture Monks, TAFMA and Hornbill Festival India, Studio Ramli Hassan Malaysia, Centre Culturel Regional de Dakar Blaise Senghor Senegal, and many international guests.

Beyond Borders project is supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture within  “Boarding Pass Plus 2021-2022”.
