LA MASCHIA

Theatre

One morning Mrs. H wakes up and discovers that she is becoming... a man! The Metamorphosis by Kafka returns in our age and slips between the increasingly uncertain boundaries of gender identity. It shifts from a claustrophobic nightmare to an irresistible comedy, which puts the masculine and feminine on a collision course. Or rather, the play tells with feminine eyes the male psyche and body transformed into something that has more to do with a cockroach than with a macho.

Claire Dowie, writer, actress, poet and pioneer of the stand-up comedy, is one of the most anti-conformist figures in contemporary theatre and one of the most acclaimed of today's London scene. From Why John Lennon wears the skirt? to Leaking from every orifice, from Benji to Absolutely delicious, the themes crossed by the author with overwhelming irony and depth concern gender identity, differences and discomfort.

Andrea Adriatico plays again on gender identity after the incursions on Copi, confronting himself for the first time with the plays of Claire Dowie. Adriatic composes scores of the word and space, making base in the "house" of Teatri di Vita created in 1993. His shows often meet dense writers such as Koltès, Pasolini, Beckett, Copi, Jelinek, privileged interlocutors of an authoritative way of creating concerts of bodies and voices.
