The culture of Emilia-Romagna

Malatestiana Library, CesenaEmilia-Romagna Region - European Culture

The rich cultural and natural heritage, the production and training centres of performing arts, the circuit of approximately one hundred theatres, the libraries and museums, the initiatives and projects of the local Boards and of private associations and bodies feed and establish the identification of Emilia-Romagna as a region of European culture, where the exchange and the connection between tradition and innovation are constant and where the chances of cultural growing and training are many.

The culture of the Emilia-Romagna. A dictionary of images

Ronco Cesi, Reggio EmiliaThis ‘dictionary of images’ is not just a set sequence showing those places defining the imagery and the meaning of Emilia-Romagna. It is rather one possible way of looking at the multi-layered social and cultural complexity which throughout the centuries has transformed what was once only a geographical entity into a land where man has left his mark: a theatre of thoughts, deeds, emotions.
The dictionary is thus a way of scrolling through various pan-shots of the region, whereby the observing eye becomes increasingly more subjective and intimate. Both the geographical and the historical vision of the region are coloured by the presence of the human beings who have left their mark in space and time. By following these film and pictorial characters, we shall discover a land and the way it has lived on.
